The Sheriff’s Office has stated that the mounted unit was funded entirely through donations. That statement carries legal and administrative consequences that extend far beyond the announcement itself. The same source further indicated that there could be pending charges involving that individual related to domestic violence or assault and suggested the possibility of prior charges. At this time, those claims have not been independently verified through court records or official documentation.

It has been reported to this journalist that Sheriff Jack Hall allegedly referred to this reporter in a conversation with an associate, Garon Petty, as his “criminal buddy.” That statement has not been independently verified and is presented here as reported.

Even so, the nature of that reported remark raises a broader concern about consistency and judgment. This reporter would hope that the allegations surrounding the individual believed to be connected to the care or housing of the Sheriff’s horse are not accurate. That hope is grounded in a basic expectation that the same level of scrutiny, discretion, and accountability would be applied consistently, particularly where public resources and public trust are involved.

Ultimately, this returns to the same place where this story began. The record will answer these questions. It will show whether decisions were made based on documented authority and consistent standards, or whether relationships and informal arrangements played a role that has yet to be disclosed.
